About

The Rocket’s Red Glare takes it’s name from the famous line in our national anthem. Francis Scott Key watched hopelessly from a British ship in the harbor as Ft McHenry was assaulted with long range cannons and Congreve rockets. The light from each bomb and rocket lit up the enormous American flag as the assault raged through the night. When dawn arrived, the sight of the tattered flag, still standing strongly, inspired Key to write a poem that would eventually become our nation’s anthem.

What does that have to do with this site? The battle of Ft McHenry is allegorical to our political philosophy in two ways.

First, I and those who share similar beliefs, are Ft McHenry. We protect our flag, our country, against the attacks of those who wish to harm or destroy her. Old Glory is attacked in many ways, and is beginning to look much different that when she was created. If we can unite and stand firm against her enemies, foreign and domestic, We can repair her, and restore her to the magnificence she deserves.

Secondly, We can use the red glare to our advantage. Rockets and fireworks were once used to light up a battlefield during nighttime hours. By firing our own rockets into the darkness, the glare reveals the position of our enemies, and shows them that we are still here, and still fighting.

Our nation has become great by embracing four fundamental ideas: Democratically chosen leaders. Constitutionally limited government. Individual liberty. Capitalistic economy. We must stand against those enemies who would erode these core principles. Please join our allegorical Ft McHenry in the defense of America and the ideas that make her great.
