I was handed a press release last week from Richard Glasgow, founder and Chair of Dear American Hero. It reads as follows:
GOP Party Member, In a Leadership Role, Trashes Veterans and is Rewarded.
ST Paul, MN – A Minnesota Republican Party member, in a leadership role, trashed veterans in a letter to the St Paul Pioneer Press. This member proclaimed to be one of the newer anti-war Republican activists who proclaimed veterans to be communists.
Repeated attempts to resolve this matter with the current Minnesota GOP administration, to censor and/or remove the member, has resulted in the member being placed into a highly visible position within the GOP.
In response to this disparaging letter, veterans and other concerned citizens will be protesting as the Minnesota GOP Convention October 3, 2009, at the River Center in downtown St Paul, Minnesota. The protest will last until Noon.

A friend of mine was was over a few nights ago had expressed his disappointment that he now can say his country tortures people. His obvious reference to the water-boarding of terrorist leaders is rather common, but I cannot figure out why or how I should feel the kind of regret or shame that my friend feels.
When I hear the word “torture” I envision the infliction of great physical harm on a victim. Medieval devices such as the rack or the iron maiden (it isn’t just a heavy metal band) were the standard bearers of the Spanish Inquisition. Early Christians were fed to lions or used as human candles. Continue reading »
Keith Ellison was among five Washington lawmakers arrested this morning during a protest rally at the Sudanese embassy. According to the Boston Globe, the protesters were asked to move behind a police line, but refused three times and were then arrested. The other congressman arrested were James McGovern (MA), John Lewis (GA), Donna Edwards (MD), and Lynn Woolsey (CA). All are Democrats. Continue reading »
The North Korean rocket launch on Saturday night shows the world that Kim Jong Il could not care less about the warnings of the United States or other countries. It was a test that is not only supposed to put a satellite in orbit, but test North Korea’s ability to deliver long range missile payload. Continue reading »
I came across a post by a great American who posts at kudzu630.wordpress.com. As I read it, I empathise. The veteran inside me understands that he wants to fight for a country worth fighting for. Lets do our part to make him as proud of us as we are of him. Continue reading »
More proof that we do not need more government run health care come from the Military hospital at Ft Bragg, NC. The Associated Press obtained an Army memo that discusses soldier’s opinions about the care they are receiving in the Warrior Transition Battalion.

I recently received my Minnesota “Gulf War Veteran” license plates and dutifully, if not proudly, put them on my car. Now, I may have to think twice before my next trip to Missouri. My new plate has a silhouette of a soldier holding a gun, which may be warning that I am a potential domestic terrorist.

When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time at the American Legion post in Mt Morris, Michigan (and at the 40&8 club; kudos if you know what that is). My step father is a Vietnam Veteran who was active in the veteran community. My grandfather was a WWII veteran: among the first cavalry soldiers to set foot in Japan. My wife and I are Navy Vets. A few of my best friends are National Guard soldiers. I have spent my life around proud military people: walking parades, respecting flags, 21-gun salutes.
